5/1/2014 Cairo Diagnostics, LLC announces new Division of Cytopathology.


White Plains, NY: Cairo Diagnostics, LLC is pleased to announce the establishment of a new Division of Cytopathology.  The Division will focus on non-gynecologic cytopathology, with a special concentration on Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimens. The Director of the Division is Dr. Teresa Alasio. Prior to joining Cairo Diagnostics, Dr. Alasio was a staff cytopathologist at CBLPath in Rye Brook, New York, where she was an integral member of the Divisions of Cytology and Integrated Diagnostics. While in this position, she reviewed over 25,000 cytology fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens, specializing in head and neck cytology, including thyroid, salivary glands and lymph nodes, and immediate on-site assessment of FNA biopsy specimens from the thyroid and breast. She was also closely involved with sales and marketing activities, including business development, client interface and sales training. Prior to this she served as the Director of Cytopathology and Fine Needle Aspiration Service at University Hospital of Brooklyn, as well as Assistant Program Director for the Department of Pathology Residency Program at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Earlier in her career she was Assistant Professor in General Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.

Dr. Alasio earned her M.D. degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She was an intern in General Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, and then completed her residency at Mount Sinai in Anatomic Pathology, where she also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Alasio did her fellowship in Cytopathology at New York University, where she trained in the specialized technique of FNA biopsy and performed several hundred FNA biopsies in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as Diagnostic Cytopathology and Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and has presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Alasio is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the International Academy of Cytology.
