About Us

Our Mission

Cairo Diagnostics is a full-service hematopathology laboratory exclusively focused on providing the highest quality testing for leukemias. Lymphomas and blood disorders by methods including Next Generation Sequencing, Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry, FISH and Cytogenetics. Our pledge is to deliver industry leading, rapid turnaround time with the goal of relieving the stress of patients awaiting a pending diagnosis and to allow medical providers to more quickly begin treatment.

Bio

Dr. Sherif Ibrahim, M.D., Ph.D

is recognized nationally as an expert in the field of Hematopathology and Flow Cytometric Diagnoses. Dr. Ibrahim previously held several positions at NYU School of Medicine and Hospitals (2001-2017), including Adjunct Professor, Director of Hematopathology/Molecular Pathology and Director of the Hematopathology Fellowship Program. He also previously served as a Hematopathology Consultant at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 2008 to 2017. He performed his Hematopathology Fellowship at the M D Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Ibrahim contributed to the scientific literature in the field of Hematology and Oncology more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters and presentations in Hematopathology and Molecular Pathology. He is an Ad Hoc Reviewer for several Pathology, and Oncology journals. Dr. Ibrahim is routinely engaged by other pathologists and physicians to render second opinions on the most difficult to diagnose leukemia and lymphoma cases.

Cairo Diagnostics is a pathology laboratory that is licensed in New York State.

Certification

Cairo Diagnostics, LLC is a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified laboratory. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulates all laboratory testing (except research) performed on humans in the U.S. through CLIA. Congress passed the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments in 1988 establishing minimum quality standards for all laboratory testing to ensure the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results regardless of where the test was performed. A laboratory is defined as any facility which performs laboratory testing on specimens derived from humans for the purpose of providing information for the diagnosis, prevention, treatment of disease, or impairment of, or assessment of health. Cairo Diagnostics is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).* The *CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is an internationally recognized program* and the only one of its kind that utilizes teams of practicing laboratory professionals as inspectors. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program deeming authority. Designed to go well beyond regulatory compliance, the program helps laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.
